Thanks to new government funding announced last week, highways improvements around Winsford Industrial Estate will lead to the development of 74 acres of new employment land.
The Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Fund (LEP) has allocated £3.8 million of the latest ‘growth fund’ contribution to infrastructure improvements which will ‘unlock’ land equivalent to the size of 50 football pitches to the north of the current estate. This third tranche of LEP funding, which amounts to £43.3 million spread across eight projects, brings the total spend past £200 million since 2014 and could bring 2,000 jobs and 250 homes to Winsford.
Through this new highways access scheme, a 30 hectare site to the north of Winsford Industrial Estate will be developed, including the upgrade of local roads and a new entrance to the estate.
Christine Gaskell, Cheshire and Warrington LEP chairman, said: “This significant level of funding is great news for Cheshire and Warrington that will enable us to build on the successes of previous rounds of Growth Deal funding, which has supported the delivery of vital infrastructure projects to drive the area’s ambitions of creating a £50 billion economy by 2040.
“This valuable support from Government will fund a wide range of projects across the region and in Winsford, it will enable us to unlock the development potential of a major employment site.”
